Instead of real efforts to solve the refugee problem, the counterproductive practice of politicizing this issue continues, during the discussion of which at the UN platform South Ossetia is deprived of the opportunity to present its well-founded point of view, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia noted, commenting on the next adoption of the resolution on June 4 within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, initiated by Georgia on refugees and displaced persons from South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
“Contrary to the true state of affairs, the resolution is based on the absolutely false thesis about the belonging of the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to Georgia. And, of course, the document, the presentation of which to the UN has become a kind of annual ritual, does not say a word that the emergence of the refugee problem was the tragic result of the armed conflicts unleashed by Georgia itself against South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” the Foreign Ministry’s commentary published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. reads
The Ministry has added, that at the same time, under the guise of promoting humanitarian issues at the UN, from year to year the Georgian side considers success to be an increase in the number of supporters of the resolution, rather than real actions aimed at solving the problems of the affected people.
“We consider what is happening to be a continuation of the cynical and unscrupulous political game started by Georgia behind the backs of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
This state of affairs, which, unfortunately, continues to receive opportunistic support within the walls of the UN, deprives any prospects for discussing the issues of refugees and displaced persons within the framework of the Geneva international discussions,” the Foreign Ministry has noted.
