A mourning event was held at the Memorial of Military Glory in the village of Parkany in Transnistria, during which it was being remembered the victims of Georgia's military aggression against South Ossetia, the press service of the PMR government reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Taranov, members of the government, parliamentarians and representatives of the public arrived to pay tribute to the fallen defenders and civilians of Alania and honor their memory.

It was noted that the historical destinies of the fraternal republics had much in common.

"The Transnistrian land also became a victim of aggression by the neighboring state, the Moldovan nationalists. Understanding the pain of the people of Alania, on this day people of Transnistria share the grief and bitterness of this heavy loss. Hundreds of civilians, militias, soldiers and peacekeepers fell victim to the treacherous Georgian aggression. Time is passing, but the memory of the terrible tragedy of August 2008 will always live in the hearts of caring people,” the press service has noted.

Addressing those present, the official representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in Transnistria Vitaly Yankovsky reminded those terrible days.

He also spoke about the importance of holding such events, which are aimed at preserving the memory of the heroically brave people and promoting historical truth and justice.

“These actions of unity are taking place today in many states friendly to South Ossetia. This is very important for the people of South Ossetia. Because, first of all, this is a tribute to the memory of the fallen, and, of course, a signal to the living. This is how we show that we are together and we are united in adversity and in joy – one whole family,” Vitaly Yankovsky has noted.

At the end of the mourning event, the leadership of the Republic of Transnistria, representatives of the public and citizens laid fresh flowers at the memorial.

On the night of August 7-8, 2008, war struck the land of South Ossetia; the so-called "restoration of constitutional order in the South Ossetian conflict zone" began.

The Georgian invaders showed inhuman cruelty, killing old people, women and children. At that time, Russia did not stand aside and came to the aid of Alania. The Georgian aggressors were defeated and expelled from the state.
