South Ossetia and Abkhazia are the independent states recognized by the Russian Federation and other member states of the United Nations, and their sovereign status cannot be a subject of discussion, the MFA of the Republic of South Ossetia noted, commenting on the statements of a number of the UN Security Council member states.
“Unfortunately, a number of countries, in order to support the so-called mainstream of the “collective West,” broadcast from high platforms the statements that do not correspond to reality. In particular, Deputy Permanent Representative of Malta to the UN F. Gati made a collective statement on behalf of several UN Security Council member states, mentioning South Ossetia and Abkhazia in the context of the territorial integrity of Georgia,” the official commentary of the MFA reads. - We have to once again disappoint the signatories of such statements once again and remind them of the need to perceive modern geopolitical realities in the region taking into account the actual reality that has developed since August 2008."
The Foreign Ministry has emphasized that such statements, voiced during tragic days for South Ossetia and the Ossetian people, are in sharp dissonance with the complete silence about the war crimes of the Georgian authorities, the murders of hundreds of civilians in South Ossetia and the Russian peacekeepers.
"There are no "occupied territories" of Georgia, there was no "Russian invasion" and the past 16 years are sufficient time to understand these indisputable facts and accept the current realities," the Ministry has noted.
