For South Ossetia, August 26, 2008, is undoubtedly a historical date of national significance, the former Minister of Press and Mass Communications, director of the media center "Ir" Irina Gagloeva has noted in a commentary to IA "Res".
"The recognition of our Republic by the Russian Federation was of fateful importance for us," Gagloeva said. - Moreover, turning to history, we can trace that our people began the national liberation struggle with an orientation and hope for Russia."
According to Gagloeva, the Republic has no alternative to relations with the Russian Federation.
"16 years have passed, and we see that a very long way has been done during this time. This is, first of all, peace on our land. We all understand what this means," Gagloeva has noted.
She has emphasized that over the past years a serious regulatory framework for the development of the republic has been developed.
"And this is already a very serious step, which potentially gives a lot," the ex-minister has noted. "Another thing is that we have not quite learned to use the accumulated experience. But this is fixable; I think that over time we will succeed."
The director of the media center "Ir" has added that the past 16 years show that people of the Republic were absolutely right.
"We never doubted our choice. I am sure that relations with Russia will continue to deepen, develop, time will tell in what forms. We see what a complex geopolitical situation is in the world," Gagloeva continued.
She has noted that the decision taken by Russia on August 26, 2008 was the only correct one in relation to South Ossetia.
"There are no two opinions on this issue, there is absolute confidence in the correctness of the chosen path," Irina Gagloeva has concluded.
