A memorial event was held on the Cathedral Square in Tskhinval on the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack in Beslan.
A flower-laying ceremony was held at the "Grieving Angel" monument in front of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Tuesday, and those present honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.
As per tradition, the participants in the event launched 334 white balloons into the sky, representing the number of those killed in the terrorist attack in Beslan.
Hundreds of the South Ossetian residents brought water and toys to the monument on Tuesday to honor the memory of the victims of the monstrous terrorist attack. Each toy is a symbol of innocence, and each drop of water is a sign of care for those who passed away and for those who survived this tragedy.
It should be noted that the mourning events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the tragedy in Beslan, which began on September 1, are taking place in Vladikavkaz, South Ossetia, at the monuments to the children of Beslan in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities and countries around the world.
Today, these events will end with the laying of flowers and wreaths at the "Tree of Sorrow" monument at the "City of Angels" memorial cemetery and with a requiem concert in the courtyard of the first school in Beslan.
September 3 is the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism. The date was established in memory of the tragic events in Beslan on September 1-3, 2004. For three days, terrorists were holding schoolchildren and their relatives hostage in the school building. 334 people perished, including 186 children.
