Venezuela became one of the first countries to resolutely support South Ossetia in the international arena, thereby confirming the right of the South Ossetian people to independently determine their fate, to live freely and peacefully and to create on the land of their ancestors. This is stated in the congratulatory message of Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Ivan Gil Pinto on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the RSO.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia by the Venezuelan leadership, represented by the Great Man and Citizen Comandante Hugo Chavez, once again demonstrated the independent, courageous spirit and character of the Bolivarian people and convincingly proved Venezuela's firm commitment to the principles and norms of international law, justice, peace and democratic development.
On the occasion of this significant date, Akhsar Dzhioev also sent a congratulatory message to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Venezuela to the Republic of South Ossetia, Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez.
Venezuela became the third country after Russia and Nicaragua to recognize the independence of South Ossetia.
