The co-chairs of the Geneva discussions will advocate for preserving Geneva as a platform for negotiations. This was stated to the media by the UN co-chair Cihan Sultanoglu.
On Tuesday, a delegation of the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions arrived in the South Ossetian capital, including the UN, OSCE and the EU representatives.
It should be reminded that at the meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the head of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry Akhsar Dzhioev, the possible transfer of the Geneva discussions to another venue was discussed.
“The Geneva discussions, by definition and in accordance with the agreement, should be held in Geneva. Therefore, all three organizations representing the co-chairs - the UN, OSCE and the EU - will advocate for preserving Geneva as the venue," Sultanoglu said.
According to the co-chair, if a decision is made to transfer it should be achieved only through consensus among the participants, and at the moment there are no prerequisites for this.
The co-chairs have also noted that the format for admitting journalists to the meetings within the IPRM framework may change.
According to them, they can only recommend admitting media representatives to the meetings. At this stage, journalists can only ask questions to representatives of their delegations and following the meetings.
