It is necessary to recognize the genocide of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and fight against the resurgent fascism. This was stated by Deputy Speaker of Parliament of South Ossetia, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ossetian History and Caucasian Studies at the South Ossetian State University Taimuraz Tadtaev during the international conference on the topic "Historical Memory of the Genocide of the Peoples of the USSR by the Third Reich during the Great Patriotic War".
He emphasized the sanctity of the memory of the Great Patriotic War for South Ossetia and called it the important and sacred milestone.
"We are proud of the memory that we have carried and will continue to carry on. We are proud of the monuments to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, none of which were destroyed even after the 90s," Tadtaev said.
The Deputy Speaker expressed his incomprehension of the lack of official recognition of the genocide of the Soviet people.
"This was in fact genocide of the people, and I cannot understand why this fact has not been accepted yet. This is in fact a clear manifestation of genocide, there is eyewitness evidence, documents," he has emphasized.
Tadtaev cited statistics from his native village as an example, illustrating the scale of losses - more than half of the drafted soldiers did not return home.
"Most of these guys did not even have time to start families, and this is also a loss. From my very small village, in which there were not even thirty houses, 40 people were drafted. Most of them never returned home. In this example, we can imagine a truly terrible, difficult picture that was taking place during the Great Patriotic War," the deputy has added.
He has noted that the memory of the war in South Ossetia is carefully preserved.
"We proudly celebrate all the dates associated with the Great Patriotic War. Next year marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory, and for us this is a very important date. I believe that the resolution adopted following our conference will be a very important document, because we have been trying to prove the fact of genocide for many years,” the Vice-Speaker said.
In conclusion, Taimuraz Tadtaev noted with regret the revival of fascism in some former Soviet republics and emphasized the importance of combating this phenomenon.
“We are currently fighting fascism, which, most likely, was not finished off in 1945. We will continue to pass on the memory of the Great Patriotic War to future generations. Unfortunately, we see the example of what happens when people forget in many former Soviet republics, where fascism has raised its head very vividly,” he said.
