A meeting between South Ossetian leader Alan Gagloev and Abkhazian President Badra Gunba took place in Sukhum. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Republic of South Ossetia.

As noted by the press service, at the beginning of the meeting Gunba greeted Gagloev and thanked him for the visit.

He has noted that peoples of the two republics are united by a common history, a common desire to preserve their identity, culture, originality, and language.

“All this has certainly made us closer over the course of decades. At the cost of the lives of many thousands of our compatriots, we have given generations the opportunity to live and develop on their land. Dear Alan Eduardovich, I sincerely treat you as my older brother. This warmth and respect that remains between us, I am sure, will be passed on to the citizens of our countries. It is very important for us that you have shared such an important day in history with us. Thank you,” Gunba said.

For his part, President of South Ossetia wished Badre Gunba good luck for the benefit of the people of Abkhazia, prosperity and well-being for the fraternal republic.

“Today we are rejoicing together with you, the people have made their choice. Everything went relatively calmly, and today we have witnessed how the elected President of the Republic of Abkhazia took office. I sincerely wish you good luck, success for the benefit of the people of Abkhazia, so that the republic may prosper and so that there may always be a peaceful sky,” Gagloev said.

He has also congratulated Gunba on behalf of the people and leadership of South Ossetia.

“We have passed a long way together, of course, there were losses. Today we are proud of our independence and are indebted to our older generations, who preserved our native land for us,” Alan Gagloev said.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged memorable gifts.
