The agreement on duty-free import of goods between South Ossetia and Abkhazia is ready and will be signed in the near future. This was reported to the media during the press conference by the trade representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation Taimuraz Goginov.
Earlier, presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia agreed to prepare the agreement on the introduction of a duty-free trade regime between the republics.
“The agreement is ready. It is expected that it will be signed on the sidelines of the Caucasus Investment Forum or the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This document will significantly simplify trade and strengthen economic ties between the two republics. The economic community of South Ossetia is pleased that our signals were heard by the leadership of the republic. Thank you for responding,” Goginov said.
As noted by the trade representative, last year two trial deliveries of beer were made to Abkhazia. Bagiata also exports its products there.
"After we declare that there are no restrictions in trade, like with Russia, the amount of exports to Abkhazia will increase. Of course, Abkhazia has a large volume of goods that can be brought to South Ossetia. They have wonderful citrus fruits, chic wine. I think that by the next March 8th, some entrepreneurs will bring mimosas from there, which will become more affordable, and the armfuls of these flowers for ladies will be lusher," the speaker has added.
According to Goginov's forecasts, after the introduction of the duty-free trade regime, the products from South Ossetia will become approximately 20% cheaper for Abkhazia.
"Thanks to this, the Republic's products will become more competitive, and, according to our expectations, the demand for the South Ossetian products will increase," he summed up.
