The Zar tragedy is not just a crime. It was the act of Nazism, as inhumane as the atrocities of the fascists during the Great Patriotic War, President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev has noted in his address to his fellow citizens in connection with the 33rd anniversary of the tragedy.

Exactly 33 years ago, on May 20, 1992, on the Zar road, which was then called the "road of life", a column of unarmed, innocent people was shot. 33 civilians - women, children, and old people - were shot in cold blood by the Georgian fascists.

"Today, with pain and sorrow, we are remembering one of the most terrible tragedies in the history of the Ossetian people. Ossetians know well what Nazism is. We experienced it in 1920, in 1989-1992, in 2008. They wanted to destroy us because we are Ossetians, because we did not bow down, did not renounce our language, our land, our honor," the appeal says.

The leader of the Republic has emphasized that then, as now, the truth was on the side of the Ossetians, they were fighting for the right to live on their native land.

"We will not forget and will not forgive this crime. The Zar tragedy has no statute of limitations. And as long as we are alive, as long as generation after generation preserves this memory, we will strive for the international community to recognize the genocide of the Ossetian people,” the President said.

Today, when the Ossetian soldiers are fighting on the fronts of the special military operation, we understand that the fight against Nazism continues. on a different scale, in different forms, but with the same evil essence.

“And as then, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the brotherly Russian people against the evil that has raised its head again. But Nazism always has one end - collapse and defeat. South Ossetia remembers and honors its fallen. We will make every effort to ensure that something like this never happens again. So that the memory of the 33 killed on the Zar road lives forever in our hearts, in the hearts of our children and grandchildren, in our national memory,” Gagloev has concluded.
