The funeral of Atsamaz Buraev, a serviceman from the 4th Russian Military Base perished while on duty in the Kherson region, was held in Tskhinval.

The funeral ceremony was attended by the Republic's leadership, headed by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, members of Parliament, headed by Speaker Alan Margiev, the soldier's family and friends, and his fellow soldiers.

Speaking at the memorial service, the head of state announced that the Republic's leadership had asked the Russian authorities to award Buraev the title of Hero of Russia, the country's highest military award.

"Everyone spoke of Atsamaz's heroism: both the leadership and his comrades. He went to the special military operation zone to support his comrades. The heroism Atsamaz displayed should be held up as the example," the President said.

Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov has emphasized that Atsamaz was a man of strong character, courage, and authority.

"Atsamaz was a true officer and military man. He had all the qualities to become a great leader. He went to the special military operation zone without hesitation, was always a strict but caring commander, and his subordinates respected him. We must remember people like Atsamaz and follow their example," the Ambassador noted.

The head of the 4th Military Base, Rajan Aliev, has stated that Atsamaz Buraev was always a patriot and a true defender of the Motherland.

"Atsamaz was serving at the 4th Military Base for about ten years. His attitude toward service, integrity, human qualities, and devotion knew no bounds. For this, I want to express my gratitude to his parents. I was myself serving in the special military operation and saw how he was successfully completing the combat missions, caring for his soldiers, and never let his goals slip. Over the years of service, Atsamaz earned respect and authority, becoming a role model for young soldiers and officers. His heroic deed will forever remain in our hearts and will serve as the example of courage for our soldiers,” Aliev has emphasized.

Atsamaz's fellow soldier, Soslan, expressed deep sorrow at his loss.

“Atsamaz's passing, although it's only been a short time, is already being felt in the battalion. Everyone who served under his command is having a hard time accepting this loss. Atsamaz demonstrated a level of heroism in the special military operation zone that many others could not match. He was a role model for his soldiers and officers. Every day, he demonstrated by example how to fight. The command expresses its condolences to Atsamaz's family and gratitude to his parents for such a son,” Soslan said.

In December 2025, during his lifetime, Atsamaz was awarded the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal by Presidential decree in the special military operation zone.

Posthumously, by Presidential decree, Buraev was awarded the "For Military Labor in the Name of Peace" medal.

Atsamaz is survived by a daughter.
