On July 2-3, 20197, a regular round of international discussions on security in Transcaucasia took place in Geneva. The delegations of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, the USA, as well as representatives of the EU, the UN and the OSCE took part in it. The South Ossetian delegation was headed by the Presidential Plenipotentiary for Post-Conflict Settlement, Murat Dzhioev.

Russia considers theses about the accelerated admission of Georgia to NATO dangerous, said Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin on Wednesday after another round of Geneva discussions on Transcaucasia.

"A separate topic we, together with our partners from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, highlighted the themes of the growing activity of the US and NATO in the South Caucasus region; numerous, rather large-scale multinational exercises of this military-political bloc," said Karasin.

The 48th round of Geneva discussions will be held on July 2-3

The South Ossetian delegation went to Geneva to participate in the next round of the Geneva discussions. The main goal of the dialogue remains the development of bilateral legally binding agreements on the non-use of force by Georgia against South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Work on these documents began in 2008.

In early June, the co-chairs arrived in South Ossetia and discussed the agenda of the upcoming round with members of the South Ossetian delegation.

Security issues, missing persons and humanitarian issues are a range of issues that are on the agenda of the Geneva discussions. The co-chairs came to Tskhinval to outline with their colleagues the circle of issues discussed at the upcoming round, which is scheduled for the beginning of July. Murat Dzhioev, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Republic of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement issues, has noted that today they will have to continue the responsible work that the co-chairs are conducting at the platform of Geneva discussions on ensuring peace and security in our region. Murat Dzhioev has expressed hope that the upcoming round will be very positive.

The next round of the Geneva talks is scheduled for July.

State Secretary - Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin discussed on the phone with the UN representative, the Сo-chairman of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia, Ms. Dzhihan Sultanoglu, the preparation of a new round of negotiations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
