At the next round of Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia South Ossetian delegation still intends to achieve concrete progress in drafting a document on the non-use of force by Georgia against South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The delegation of South Ossetia went to Geneva to participate in the 29 round of discussions, which will be held October 7-8. The main objective of the South Ossetian side, as in previous rounds, is to draft a document on the no-use of force.
As IA «RES» has been informed at the office of the Presidential Envoy to the RSO for post-conflict settlement, the South Ossetian delegation will continue to work on the solution of humanitarian issues, including the release of the citizens of South Ossetia from Georgian prisons and clarifying the fate of the missing persons.
South Ossetian delegation will not discuss refugee issues, as the Georgian side, politicizing this question, has been submitting it to the UN General Assembly for several years. South Ossetia and Abkhazia do not participate in the meetings of the UN General Assembly, so their opinion is not taken into account. Accordingly, the problem is considered only from the point of view of the Georgian side. Therefore South Ossetia refuses to discuss the refugee issue in the framework of the Geneva discussions.
The Geneva discussions are held since 2008 in accordance with the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan and involve representatives of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, the United States, as well as the UN, OSCE and EU. South Ossetian delegation is headed by Presidential Envoy to the RSO for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev.
