Recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Damascus was a conscious step on the part of the leadership of Syria, said Riyad Haddad, the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Russia.

According to him, several agreements have been signed between Syria and South Ossetia, which will become the basis for the development of further relations.

"We have signed a number of cooperation agreements with South Ossetia and will make every effort to ensure that they are fulfilled and have become a strong foundation for future relations," the Syrian diplomat said.

The leaders of South Ossetia and Russia will hold talks in Moscow during the visit of the RSO President Anatoly Bibilov to the Russian Federation, which will be held from August 23 to 25. According to the press service of the head of state, during the meeting, Putin and Bibilov will discuss priority issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as sum up the results of 10 years that have passed since the recognition of South Ossetia's independence by the Russian Federation.

The sending of a lawsuit against Russia by the Georgian authorities to the European court of human rights once again shows their inability and persistent unwillingness to adequately perceive the long-established geopolitical realities in the region, said South Ossetian Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev.
