The commentaries of the Plenipotentiary of the President of RSO on the subject of the post conflict settlement, the first Chairman of the CEC at the elections in the Supreme Council of South Ossetia Boris Chochiev concerning the Referendum, which was conducted by Georgia in March, 31, 1991.
The Plenipotentiary of the President of the RSO Boris Chochiev declared that after 20 years the Georgian authorities were continuing to make fool of their population, affirming that people of South Ossetia had taken part in so named "referendum on rehabilitation of independence"."Not a single inhabitant of South Ossetia could take part in it, because for that period we were no more the part of Georgia -we had conducted our own elections, in which the georgian population of the Republic had also taken part, - has declared the Plenipotentiary. - I do not exclude that each Ossetian, living in Georgia was forced to vote at a gun point. Each of them faced the choice - "life" or "death". Subsequently more than a hundred ossetians were killed, the rest of the alive had to leave South Ossetia and run away to Russia.
Chochiev has reminded that on March 17 1991 the South-Ossetian people took part in the referendum on preservation of the USSR." The whole population of South Ossetia, including people of the georgian nationality took part in the referendum, but the referendum was not supported in Georgia, because they, as the separatists, had been already preparing for going out of the Soviet Union", - has emphasized the plenipotentiary ." It`s funny to speak today of full exulting of Georgia, - has noted Chochiev, -for each inhabitant of this country remembers, as freely he has felt himself living in the USSR and understands that today many of them have to lead a beggarly life in the ''independent'' Georgia".
