Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia in connection with the situation in Syria

An expanding crisis in Syria has caused a growing concern in South Ossetia. The reports, coming from this country, indicate the new armed incidents, bloody acts of terror in Damascus and numerous civilian casualties. Syria is going through difficult times, first of all, because of the so-called foreign well-wishers, who on the one hand, proclaim democracy, and on the other -arm the rebels, thus, clearly pushing the warring parties to further fierce and relentless confrontation. Therefore, the public of Tskhinval considers that this kind of initiative and external interference may be deliberately harmful.

They not only evade the essence of the problem, but also hinder the achievement of realistic solutions that could stop the current escalation of violence. The Syrian people must make their choice. A positive solution to the conflict cannot be achieved by creating fertile field for terrorism and double standards, no matter where they come from.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia is calling to cease all forms of violence in Syria and believes that, despite everything, Syria has the chances for achieving a peaceful settlement.
South Ossetia is monitoring thoroughly the situation in Syria and expresses the hope that the leadership of Syria within the shortest possible time will be able to find solution to the expanding crisis by political means.
