National Olympic Committee is planned to be established in South Ossetia.
As reported to IA "Res" by the Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Vadim Bogiev, "Republic of South Ossetia is a sovereign state. Our independence has been recognized by several states that are members of the United Nations and other international organizations.It is natural that our country should have its sports structures, which, along with the other ones, are the indispensableattributes of any independent state".
According to him, South Ossetia received congratulatory telegrams from a number of countries whose teams had participated in the recent XXX Summer Olympics in London.
"It is said in these letters that the international sporting community, representing these states, will be glad to see the athletes of South Ossetia at the Olympic Games," - he added.
Bogiev has noted that at present they are actively working on the charter of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia.
"We are preparing a charter, we sent the appropriate orders to expedite the work on establishing the sports federations, and after that will be established the National Olympic Committee," - said the chairman.
It should be noted that at the Olympic Games in London the native of South Ossetia Besik Kudukhov won a silver medal in freestyle wrestling. In previous years, three other natives of South Ossetia - Alexander Mamonov, Vadim Bogiev and Kakha Kakhiashvili took part in the Olympic Games, being held at different times.
An athlete Alexander Mamonov (high jump) took part in the XVI Summer Olympics, held in 1956 in Melbourne.
Vadim Bogiev in 1996 became the winner of the Atlanta XXVI Summer Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling in the weight class up to 68 kg.
Kakha Kakhiashvili in 1992, 1996 and 2000 became the winner of XXV, XXVI and XXVI Summer Olympic Games in weightlifting, held respectively in Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney.
