South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov has met today with representatives of the Russian companies involved in the construction of power plants - with representatives of the closed corporation "MNETO INSET": General Director Yakov Blaschko, a representative of the company in Armenia and the CIS countries Armen Grigoryan, a representative of the Kabardino-Balkaria Akhmed Khamukov and former CEO of the Zaramag hydropower plants Cascade Peter Kochiev.
During the meeting were discussed the issues of designing and construction of mini-hydropower plants in South Ossetia. The President stressed that South Ossetia had launched a new level of development, so the issue of providing the Republic with its own electricity is very topical.
"We have all the resources and capabilities to provide stand-alone electricity. This is a very important element. We are the politically independent state, but economically we are still dependent, and one of the ways out of this situation is to develop our own power, "- said the president.
Tibilov has also said that at present South Ossetia receives electricity from outside the Republic, and therefore its cost is quite high.
"Therefore, we are interested in using our water resources. In the near future we need to start the development of construction documents at least for one mini-hydropower plant "- concluded Tibilov.
The director of "EnergostroyServis" Peter Kochiev informed the President of the results of research on the possibilities of building hydropower plants in the territory of the Republic.
"Our team arrived in South Ossetia in July. We examined all the possible places where we could build the station, made some calculations and then presented concrete proposals to the government of South Ossetia, "- said Kochiev.
Kochiev assured that with the implementation of these proposals the Republic would be able to provide itself with its own electricity.
