The entry into force of the agreement on dual citizenship between Russia and South Ossetia will allow residents of the Republic to receive Russian pensions, social benefits and medical care under a simplified scheme. This was announced at the briefing in Tskhinval by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Akhsar Dzhioev.

"I think that after the full entry into force of the agreement, our citizens will have the right, having received Russian citizenship, to apply for their pensions in a simplified manner on the territory of the Russian Federation.

This also applies to those of our citizens who, having served in law enforcement agencies or security forces, are retiring.

Without Russian citizenship, they could not apply for pension payments. Having received Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, they will be able to do this," the Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the Minister, the agreement has significant advantages and will serve as the important factor in strengthening relations with Russia.

“Russian citizenship provides access to various social benefits, including medical care, social payments and education. In South Ossetia, the percentage of people with Russian citizenship is quite large, but, nevertheless, the number of people wishing to acquire it is growing,” Dzhioev has noted.

As emphasized by the Minister, the agreement also regulates the issue of military service.

Citizens who have completed military service on the territory of one party are exempt from conscription for military service on the territory of the other party.
