The scientist from South Ossetia took part in the IV International Conference in Abkhazia

Director of the South Ossetian Research Institute Robert Gagloyty participated in the IV Abkhaz international archaeological conference held in the capital of Abkhazia. As Robert Gagloyty reported to the news agency "Res", the conference was dedicated to the memory of a famous archaeologist Leo Solovyov.

"The conference was also attended by scientists from Russia, Germany, France, Turkey and Ukraine - said Gagloyty. - During the event I participated in the section '' Antiquity ( Stone Age, Bronze Age , Early Iron Age, Antiquity ) '' and made a report on the topic ''Natural Resources of South Ossetia: ancient times and modern realities.'' At the conference were discussed archaeological issues and conservation of archaeological sites. Participants of the conference inspected the Orthodox churches in Eastern Abkhazia, monuments in Kodori Gorge and in Western Abkhazia.
The conference was held with the assistance of the Government of Abkhazia and the Abkhazian Institute of Humanitarian Studies, Abkhazian State Museum, the Abkhaz State University and the Department for Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage.
Leo Soloviev is a distinguished archaeologist, Professor, a museum worker, the recognized devotee of the archaeological science in Abkhazia. Over 55 years he had been working tirelessly in the mountains of Abkhazia as a geologist and archaeologist, and made a significant contribution to studying and preservation of the Abkhaz historical and archaeological sites. He issued dozens of scientific publications and studied a lot of archaeological material.
