The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia has issued the appeal in connection with the 17th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic's independence. The message was sent to all diplomatic missions accredited in Russia, as well as to the Georgian Interests Section at the Embassy of Switzerland.
The message has noted that on August 26, 2008, Russia, as a great power, a reliable partner and guarantor of the fulfillment of its obligations, once again confirmed its high mission to maintain peace and security in the region.
"On this day, the Russian Federation, taking into account the will of the people of South Ossetia, guided by the principles of international law, recognized the independence of the Republic. The decision of the Russian leadership is the result of a pragmatic and systemic analysis of all circumstances, including those of a long-term strategic nature," the Embassy has noted.
This historical event has become a symbol of South Ossetia's victory over the evil perpetrated for many decades by the criminal Georgian regimes of Gamsakhurdia and Saakashvili.
"The noble determination of the leadership and people of Russia, who saved South Ossetia from destruction in August 2008, will forever remain in the grateful memory of the Ossetian people. The leaders of the Russian Federation have repeatedly stated that the recognition of the Republic's independence reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision," the document says.
The diplomatic department has reminded that on September 9, 2008, diplomatic relations were established between South Ossetia and Russia, and on September 17, 2008, the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance was signed. On March 18, 2015, a transition to a new level of interstate relations, alliance and strategic partnership was made - the agreement on alliance and integration was signed.
"For 17 years, the Republic has been demonstrating to the world community that it is capable of not only defending its independence, but also creating and building a full-fledged democratic state. Thanks to large-scale assistance of Russia, South Ossetia is successfully solving the tasks of state building facing it, consistently developing its economy and culture, expanding international contacts to strengthen its authority in the world," the Embassy has concluded.
