The border of South Ossetia with the Russian Federation will be closed from 00.00 hours May 10, 2020 to 23.59 hours May 17, 2020. According to the press service of the head of state, such a decision was made at a meeting of the operational headquarters to counteract the coronavirus infection COVID-19.
A temporary ban on border crossing applies to all citizens without exception. The ban also applies to trucks.
As noted by President Anatoly Bibilov, “the Republic needs time to quarantine, inspect, and provide necessary assistance to arriving citizens, including a large group of cadets of military universities.”
Three cases of coronavirus infection were detected on Wednesday in South Ossetia. As reported to IA "Res" by Deputy Chairman of the South Ossetian Consumer Supervision Committee Anna Gagloeva, including a 14-year-old cadet of the Suvorov School and mother and son (6 years old) from Leningor district.
As noted by the South Ossetian epidemiologist, two nurses in contact with patients and a driver will be quarantined in the Tskhinval hospital.
The ban on crossing the state border with Russia has been in force since April 5 and was extended until May 31, this did not apply to freight vehicles that have special permits to deliver goods to the Republic. Also, the decision did not apply to the Russian military, diplomats and people who need emergency medical care.
The crossing points of the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia have been closed since the end of February.
