The climbing of alpinists of South Ossetia to the Nameless Peak is the first event in a series of memorable events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Ossetian people’s genocide, said Zhanna Zasseeva, Minister of Culture of South Ossetia.
According to her, all the climbing groups of South Ossetia expressed a desire to pass on three routes - from Dzimyr Khokh, the Kudar Gorge and the Ruck Pass, on which the people of South Ossetia were driven out in 1920.
“Our climbers will follow the death routes. On the plate that they must install, it will be written: "You can’t forget about it," so that all climbers and guests of the Republic who visit the mountains of Ossetia every summer stop and think. Indeed, under these stones there will definitely be bones of our compatriots, and there are still living the witnesses today,” she said.
The Minister has reminded that many our compatriots were lost in the mountains, and the climbers will stop on each hill to pay tribute to those who died on difficult mountain trails.
“And this is the right decision. In this world, everything is interconnected. I think, God will hear their prayers, and in the afterlife, it will become a little easier for the martyrs,” said Zhanna Zasseeva.
Climbing will be done by professional climbers, and there are many people who want to. But as noted by the Minister, they will select only twenty people. Climbers will stay in the mountains for three days. “The coronavirus pandemic made some changes to the events, and therefore, today we can’t get to Nogir (North Ossetia), where, then, in the 20th settled down our countrymen, to Digora and say thanks to the Digorians for the warm welcome, that they didn’t let the refugees die on the plain, ”the Minister said.
She assured that they would repeat this route after the removal of quarantine measures.
