A criminal case has been initiated in South Ossetia against a detained citizen of Georgia for illegal crossing of the State Border and encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer, the KGB press service reported on Friday.
On July 11, South Ossetian law enforcement agencies detained a resident of Georgia Gakheladze Z.M. who with weapons had illegally penetrated into the territory of the Republic and opened fire on the border guards.
"Currently, the violator is in isolation in quarantine. The competent authorities of the Republic of South Ossetia have initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 322" Illegal Crossing of the State Border "and Article 317" Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer "of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the necessary investigative measures are being conducted, "the intelligence agency said in a statement.
The KGB has noted that this incident, like almost all the facts of detention of Georgian residents for violations of border regimes on the RSO state border, is used by official Tbilisi to whip up tension on the interstate contact line.
"The harsh statements made by the Tbilisi regime and its Western masters in connection with the detention of Gakheladze, about the alleged aggressive actions of the Russian and South Ossetian border guards against the civilian population and the violation of the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, are extremely absurd," the KGB said. The Georgian leadership cannot but be aware of the biased nature of the information being promoted, but it is not able to attract US financial investments to the country by other methods and restore the recently shaken trust and favor of its Western curators Statements of a possible cut in financial assistance from the United States caused serious excitement in the Georgian leadership, which is objectively aware of its vassal dependence.
Given the upcoming parliamentary elections in October this year, the West's discontent is a serious shock for Georgia's political elite, which it will try its best to cope with by broadcasting the tension it creates itself on the border."
The Committee notes that in order to achieve maximum agiotage around the current situation, "the Georgian regime is hypocritically using members of the Gakheladze family, publishing their comments in the context of politicized and clearly biased materials."
“Against this background, some Georgian politicians appealed for help to international organizations, complaining about the ineffectiveness of the existing mechanisms for resolving such problems. At the same time, they deliberately keep silent about the reasons for this state of affairs, which lie in the counterproductive position of official Tbilisi towards South Ossetia. By the policy of denying the sovereignty of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Georgian side deprives itself of any opportunities for a civilized resolution of conflict situations, and then actively presents its absurd complaints.
The position of the EUMM deserves special attention, which assured that "it will actively monitor the incident." Thus, instead of taking any steps to change Georgia's counterproductive position and prevent an escalation of tensions, the mission decided to “actively” observe, while making biased but beneficial statements for Georgia,” the Committee said.
The KGB noted that "the statement of the US Embassy about" unwavering support "and
« deep concern "is happily perceived by the Georgian side as an encouragement and is a kind of command to continue the ongoing information campaign."
The special service has emphasized that it is only concerned that this informational occasion will sooner or later exhaust itself, and the Georgian side will artificially create new ones by carrying out various provocations.
KGB of South Ossetia said that Georgian leadership and its Western curators need to understand that C Gakheladze, detained for violating South-Ossetian-Georgian border and opening fire on the border guard officials currently do not need their support but the qualified help of lawyers, as his action is viewed from the perspective of criminal legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia.
