Medals "Gold Star" of the Hero of the Soviet Union, "For Military Merit", "For the Defense of Odessa", "For the Defense of Sevastopol", the Order of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner - all these are awards of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the commander of the torpedo boat detachment of the Black Sea Fleet, the captain 3rd rank Konstantin Kochiev.
Konstantin Kochiev was born on May 8, 1913 in South Ossetia. After graduating from the factory apprenticeship school, he worked first as a mechanic, then as a physical education instructor. In 1933, Kochiev was called up to serve in the USSR Navy. In 1937 he graduated from the Frunze Naval School, after which he served in the Black Sea Fleet.
By the beginning of World War II, Senior Lieutenant K.G. Kochiev, in addition to higher naval education, had 4 years of practical experience of service on the Black Sea torpedo boats and became an expert on the latest weapons for that time, initiator and pioneer in the development and use of these weapons, experienced commander and educator of personnel of torpedo boats.
In World War II, Kochiev was fighting as the commander of a torpedo boat detachment of the 1st torpedo boat brigade of the Black Sea Fleet. He took part in the defense of Odessa, Sevastopol and Novorossiysk, as well as in the Kerch landing operation. He also took an active part in the liberation of Crimea. Under the leadership of Konstantin Kochiev, the detachment made 250 combat exits, destroying 4 transports, one submarine, 13 self-propelled barges, a torpedo boat, an aircraft, delivered 78 mines and transported more than 250 paratroopers.
One of the central streets of Tskhinvali, the capital of our state, is named after the great hero.
The street is small, but almost every resident is familiar with the military exploits of Kochiev. A resident of this street-a teacher of the Ossetian language and literature of school No. 6 Liana Doguzova even told in detail about his heroic exploits and in what battles he took part: "Konstantin Kochiev participated in the defense of Odessa and Sevastopol, in the liberation of the Crimea. But, the biggest role of his squad of torpedo boats played in the operation to liberate Novorossiysk. A street is named after him not only in Tskhinval, but also in Sevastopol. At school, at almost every lesson, I tell the children about the outstanding personalities who glorified and glorify our Ossetia. The younger generation should know their heroes, so that there is someone to look up to."

Torpedo operator GF Gavrish wrote: "Konstantin Georgievich Kochiev was an extremely modest man. He did not like very much if he was called a Hero of the Soviet Union. Tskhinval School No. 2 bears the name of Konstantin Kochiev with dignity, and here almost every pupil knows who he is. Moreover, his sister Lydia Konstatinovna Kochieva was working in this school for many years as a teacher of the Russian language.
In one article, the chairman of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of South Ossetia, Batradz Kharebov, has written that K. Kochiev's boat is eternal in Sevastopol, and the hero's sisters were always invited to festive events in Crimea. The text of one of the invitations says: "The Presidium of the Council of Veterans-Katernikov plans to hold ceremonial events in the city of Sevastopol from May 5 to 10, 1989 with the participation of all veterans of the unit on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the unit, the 45th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol, awarding the unit with the Order of Nakhimov 1st degree and assignment of the name of Sevastopol ".
By the way, the school, which bears the name of the great hero, has its own traditions. The pupils remember and honor teachers who have brought up several dozen generations. Pupils of the 9th grade of school No. 2 congratulated the sister of the Hero of the Soviet Union on the New Year and visited her home. And this is not the only case.
