Dozens of people came on Monday to the Alley of Heroes of the DPR to pay tribute to the memory of the legendary commander of the international brigade "Pyatnashka" Oleg Mamiev.
Several hundred people gathered on the alley of heroes in the Lenin Komsomol park , including the Chairman of the People's Council Vladimir Bidyovka and other parliamentarians, heads of ministries and departments, social activists, colleagues, and Mamiev's relatives.
The parliamentarians consider Oleg Mamiev to be a great man. “This is a man of the world. The world - because he is a participant in the 2008 hostilities in South Ossetia. Before our war, he knew what it was like when peaceful citizens and children die. He came to us as a volunteer to protect civilians and the freedom of choice of the Donetsk People's Republic. He was always on the front line, never abandoned his fighters. I believe that we are indebted to such people. And the main thing that we must do today is to remember them, honor and pass this memory on to the next generations, "Bidevka said.
The head of the DPR Denis Pushilin said that Oleg Mamiev had left an indelible mark on the history of Donbass.
"He was always fighting on the front line - where there was the greatest danger and where his help was most important. Having proved himself as a brave fighter, a talented strategist and an authoritative leader, Oleg headed one of the most powerful and well-known military units," the politician has written in his Telegram channel.
A Russian volunteer, hero of the Donetsk People's Republic, Oleg Mamiev, better known as a commander Mamai, arrived to help Donbass from North Ossetia in May 2014. He was fighting in the "Vostok "battalion, and later became the commander of the "Pyatnashka "international brigade.
On May 17, 2018, Oleg Mamiev received a severe shrapnel wound in a battle near Avdiivka. The Ukrainian Armed forces shelled the village with mortars. On May 19, Donetsk declared a Day of Mourning.
Three years have passed since the death of Oleg Mamiev, but the grateful residents of Donbass have not forgotten the feat of the defender of the Republic. Residents of the Donetsk People's Republic continue to bring flowers to the monument to the officer on the Alley of Heroes.
Mamai is also remembered in the neighboring Lugansk People's Republic. On the anniversary of the death of Oleg Mamiev, Lieutenant Colonel of the People's Militia of the LPR Andrei Marochko published a post where he reminded the residents of Donbass about the legendary commander.
