In the vicinity of the settlement of Lopan in Znaur disrtucr of South Ossetia, two citizens of Georgia were detained by border guards for violating the state border regime, the press service of the Republic's KGB reported.
"Citizens were detained - Melekishvili Zaza Dzhondoevich, born 1987 and Gognidze Valerian Dzhambulatovich, born in 1984, residents of the village of Vaka, Khashur municipality. It should be noted that these persons not only violated the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia, but deliberately they drove into the territory of the Republic by a truck, where they tried to engage in illegal procurement of firewood, "the press service has noted.
According to the press service, during the interrogation of the violators, it became known that in connection with the measures taken by the Georgian government to counter the spread of coronavirus infection, the unemployment rate is growing.
“Due to high tariffs for gas fuel, only one percent of the residents of gasified villages in the borderlands can afford to heat their households with natural gas. In addition, the information disseminated in the media about the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign in Georgia does not inspire confidence among citizens. In view of this, there is a massive refusal of vaccination, and as a result, an increase in morbidity and mortality from coronavirus infection. The struggle of the Georgian population for survival, the lack of basic means and income for existence forces citizens to attempt illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic," the committee said in a statement..
The KGB has once again reminded that illegal crossing of the state border, as well as rendering assistance in the commission of unlawful activities, are criminally punishable acts.
