The construction of the basalt plant in the village of Pris, Tskhinval District, was inspected on Thursday by President Anatoly Bibilov, the Head of the Presidential Administration for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Igor Maslov, Russian Ambassador to the Republic Marat Kulakhmetov, Prime Minister Gennady Bekoev and other officials.

According to the presidential press service, the director of the Ir-Basalt enterprise, Roman Dzhioev, spoke about new opportunities, equipment, plant products and production volumes.

“Under the program for support and development of small and medium-sized businesses in South Ossetia, this summer we signed a loan agreement with Invest Capital LLC for ten years. Under this program, a project for basalt production is being implemented.

To date the plant is practically ready for launching, all the necessary equipment has already been delivered and installed, all that remains is to connect a reliable power supply for uninterrupted production,” said Roman Dzhioev.

Igor Maslov has noted that the project is very interesting and in demand and inquired about further plans for the development of production.

According to Roman Dzhioev, basalt fiber is the most promising for the production of composite and reinforcing materials.

“For the production of basalt fiber, the initial raw material is crushed stone from basalt rocks. Its production is safe for people and economically beneficial. In the process of its manufacture, a large amount of thermal energy is generated, which can be used to heat premises and greenhouses.

The basalt fiber that we will produce will be used in the production of composite materials, in particular, reinforcement, construction and road-building mesh and basalt cord,” he said.

Roman Dzhioev also said that the construction of the plant was carried out under the concessional lending system of VTB Bank (PJSC).

In turn, Anatoly Bibilov has noted that the basalt plant poses no danger to the population of the Republic of South Ossetia.

“All the conclusions of the environmental specialists regarding the plant are available. And if they were not there, the construction of the basalt plant on the territory of the Republic would not have begun. The basalt plant is necessary to increase the number of jobs and income of the state,” the President said.
