The work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in the context of the coronavirus pandemic

In 2021, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia carried out active work on the implementation of the state policy in the field of international relations and the establishment of foreign policy, the department attached particular importance to the deepening of relations between the Republic and subjects of the Russian Federation.

"The Foreign Ministry also continued productive work to strengthen and develop friendly ties with the states that had recognized the sovereignty of the Republic of South Ossetia," the press service of the Foreign Ministry told the IA “Res”.

They said that largely due to the coronavirus pandemic and the imposed restrictive measures, the outlined plans for the development of a number of areas of cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations had been adjusted. In this regard, the possibility of organizing negotiations and consultations online acquired great importance. Nevertheless, diplomatic contacts were regular and stable,” the Foreign Ministry clarified.

“In the mode of videoconferencing, the Agreement was signed on the establishment of twinning relations between the city of Tskhinval and the city of Vladivostok. In the same format, Dmitry Medoev and the Artsakh Republic Foreign Minister David Babayan held working consultations in August. In addition, in the outgoing year, intensification of relations with the Republic of Abkhazia continued, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic made a number of working visits to Abkhazia,” the Ministry reported.

The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry continued to work to advance the issue of further recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia by foreign states, to find allies and partners in Europe and other parts of the world.

“Within the framework of Dmitry Medoev's visit to Italy and Turkey, numerous meetings were held with politicians, deputies and representatives of public organizations. The confrontation to the information policy of Georgia and its patrons, who present reality in a completely distorted way, remains relevant,” the press service has emphasized.

To this end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout the year made the statements, comments, and appeals to the world community, in which the opinion and position of the Foreign Ministry was expressed. In 2021, more than 180 information messages were published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been carrying out its activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia, legislation and the regulatory framework of the Republic. The main directions of the Ministry's work are determined by the development strategy of South Ossetia, coordinated by the President of the Republic.
