President Anatoly Bibilov has got acquainted with the conditions of service of border guards on the section of the South Ossetian-Georgian border near the settlement of Uista (Tsnelis), the press service of the head of state reported.

The Supreme Commander-in-Chief, accompanied by Oleg Siukaev, Head of the Znaur District Administration, Oleg Shiran, Chairman of the State Security Committee, and Valery Alikhanty, Acting Head of the KGB Border Service, visited a border post on the border with Georgia.

Here, for several years now, officers of the KGB Border Service have been courageously protecting the peace of the citizens and the territorial integrity of the Republic of South Ossetia.

First of all, Anatoly Bibilov congratulated the border guards on the 17th anniversary of the formation of the Border Service and wished them good health, fortitude, peace and prosperity.

“I am grateful to you for your dedication in carrying out the tasks assigned to you,” he said.

The head of state noted that the issue of the provocative Georgian post set up on the territory of South Ossetia should be resolved through diplomacy.

“I want to state once again that there is no military solution to this issue. Because any decision by force is a war. We do not want war; we are solving the issue of the illegal post on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia at the Geneva talks and in the IPRM format.

I think there will be some solution anyway. Everyone is well aware and our European partners, the Georgian side itself is well aware of this, that this post is on the territory of South Ossetia. We have ensured the safety of our citizens. The Border Service officers are doing everything for this,” he said.

Anatoly Bibilov stressed that "everything else, except for the part where the illegal Georgian post is set up, is being controlled by the border guards of the Republic of South Ossetia."

He has talked to the border guards in an informal setting, drank tea with them and asked about the conditions of service.

The President also met with residents of the village of Uista, who turned to him with urgent problems. It was noted that with the deployment of the South Ossetian border post, the population was feeling themselves safe.
