A special police detachment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia was awarded the Order of Honor by presidential decree. This was announced by the head of state Anatoly Bibilov at a solemn meeting in the cinema concert hall "Chermen" in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the formation of the OMON.

The words of congratulations to the OMON fighters were addressed by the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Merab Pukhaev. He made an excursion into the history of the formation of the detachment, noting that many riot police became famous both in the days of hostilities against the Georgian aggressors and in the fight against internal crime, many fighters gave their lives for the peace and peaceful labor of their homeland.
"They include the first OMON commander - Vadim Gazzaev, Taimuraz Siukaev, Grishik Sanakoev, Stanislav Gabaraev, Gennady Dzhabiev, Zurab Gubaev, Anatoly Dzagoev, Taimuraz Tedeev, Sasha Mikhailenko and many others. They will forever remain in our memory as examples of courage and bravery, like true patriots," Pukhaev said.
The Minister of Internal Affairs has added that for the freedom of our Republic, the triumph of law and order, many OMON officers laid down their lives, many were injured for life. "An example of resilience and courage can be considered the actions of the riot policemen during the Georgian aggression in August 2008. Not sparing their lives, the young riot policemen stood in the way of the aggressor next to the elders. Then Valery Dzakhoev, Gaioz Bichenov, Alan Kabisov, Soslan Maldzigov, Tamaz Pliev and Alan Sanakoev died in an unequal battle with the enemy.
Today, a new generation of the OMON fighters is already serving on guard of public order, along with the experienced employees, who sacredly honor those glorious traditions that have developed over the entire period of the unit's existence. For decisive actions during the period of the Georgian aggression, for their courage and heroism, many of them were presented the state awards. Including - the highest state award, the Order of "Uatsamongae," Pukhaev has emphasized.
The Head of State Anatoly Bibilov has noted in his speech that 30 years is not only a holiday. "You have passed a long way, showing courage and heroism. The organizational talent of Vadim Gazzaev contributed to the creation of a special detachment. The duties of combating organized crime and ensuring law and order in the Republic were in front of you and you fulfilled them with honor. Thank you and low bow," the President addressed the riot police.
He has noted the heroism of the riot police who gave their lives for the independence of South Ossetia. "OMON is the only official unit that defended the independence of our Republic without an order, and the fighters showed real patriotism. Your work and integrity are largely determined by high moral qualities and professionalism," he said.
