Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia reports on the further development and strengthening of relations with the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted that Tskhinval is closely monitoring the current situation in Donbass in the light of the special military operation launched on February 24 by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to protect the DPR and the LPR, the purpose of which is to ensure the security of the republics, as well as protect the rights and interests of the population living there.
South Ossetia, positively perceived and fully supported the decision of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to recognize the republics of Donbass as independent and sovereign states. We observe with alarm the incessant rocket and artillery shelling of cities and villages of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, where civilians continue to die, the life support infrastructure of settlements and industrial enterprises is being destroyed.
The day before, South Ossetia received a group of children with their parents who arrived in Tskhinval from Donetsk on the invitation of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia A.I. Bibilova. For eight years, the people of Donbass have been facing many trials, each time setting an example of resilience and courage. The people of South Ossetia went through these trials in 2008 and, thanks to Russia, which forced the aggressor to peace, gained recognition of the state independence.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia stands for the soonest establishment of peace throughout the territory of Donbass and Ukraine. The course of the leadership of South Ossetia to further strengthen multifaceted ties with the new states of Donbass will continue to develop in the spirit of equal partnership and mutual respect for the benefit of our countries and peoples, on the basis of signed interstate agreements.
In the near future, as the situation stabilizes, the dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia and the foreign ministries of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics on the issue of mutual opening of diplomatic missions will continue.
