The Russian party was not informed about the intention to hold a referendum in South Ossetia on the issue of unification with the Russian Federation.
As the RSO President Alan Gagloev said at the press conference in Tskhinval, this had become known during the consultations of the South Ossetian delegation with officials in Russia.
“With the Russian party, we have the Alliance and Integration Treaty, the first article of which provides for the coordination of all steps in the foreign policy vector. Here the situation turned out to be that we are uniting with the Russian Federation, but they themselves do not know about it yet. We have indicated our position that we are all for a referendum, we want South Ossetia to become part of Russia,” the President said.
He added that several steps were worked out with the Russian side in developing this issue.
“Serious questions are also raised by the wording of the referendum: Do you support the unification of the Republic of South Ossetia and Russia? We agreed to develop a specific wording, because we can enter Russia as a separate region or a separate region with subsequent unification with North Ossetia. Therefore, we will discuss the issue in the Parliament of the Republic, with the participation of the public, after which we will begin consultations with the Russian party,” Gagloev stressed.
It should be noted that earlier consultations were held in Moscow on the issue of a referendum on the unification of South Ossetia and Russia. The delegation of the Republic, headed by President Alan Gagloev, included Speaker of the Parliament Alan Tadtaev, State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev, Chairman of the Supreme Court Olesya Kochieva, Chairman of the CEC Emilia Gagieva, Acting. Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev.
