The issue of removing the illegal Georgian police post from the territory of the South Ossetian village of Uista was again discussed at the 124th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM). Deputy Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy of South Ossetia for Post-Conflict Resolution, the head of the South Ossetian delegation to the IPRM Egor Kochiev has emphasized that the South Ossetian party has been raising this issue constantly and expressed hope for a speedy resolution of the problem.

“Considering the processes taking place in Georgia, they may be preventing the authorities to make the appropriate decision. The discussion of this issue continues. For our part, it is raised every time, and we hope that this issue will still be resolved. I cannot give a specific date, but this will definitely happen,” he said.

Kochiev has noted that the post in Uista has no practical significance for Georgia and is a destabilizing factor established for political reasons.

“This post does not carry any burden — either positive or negative — for Georgia itself. It was a kind of destabilizing factor. As they said at the technical meetings taken place immediately after the installation of this post, it was a political decision. Of course, we understand perfectly well that the next political decision should be about its removal,” he has noted.
