Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia sent a note with words of solidarity and support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of the Fatherland, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.
"Exactly thirty years ago, the event took place in the history of Abkhazia that marked the point of no return, marking the beginning of a long hard struggle of the Abkhaz people against the Georgian aggression. Thousands of innocent victims, destroyed cultural and historical monuments, destroyed infrastructure, humanitarian and information blockade - this is only a small part of the consequences of the military adventures of Georgia," the note says.
The Foreign Ministry has noted that on August 14, 1992, the entire multinational people of Apsny stood up to protect their lives, freedom and a peaceful future. Courage and fortitude, faith in justice, national unity allowed the heroic Abkhaz people to achieve victory in the Patriotic War.
"For more than three decades, peoples of South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been supporting each other both in sorrow and in joy. And today Ossetia is remembering the hard pages of the history of the fraternal people, sharing the bitterness of loss with the families and friends of the fallen defenders and civilians of Abkhazia and are bowing their heads before the bright memory of the fallen," the Ministry said.
