The solemn ceremony of raising the state flag took place on Monday on the Theater Square in Tskhinval. The event continued with a concert program with the participation of the South Ossetian artists and schoolchildren.
President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev congratulated the residents of the Republic on the Day of the State Flag, which is celebrated in the Republic on September 19.
“The white-red-yellow tricolor became the symbol of our people in the modern history of Ossetia in 1989, during the awakening of national self-consciousness. The desire to have national symbols was a form of self-identification of our people, despite the unprecedented lies that the Nazi Georgian leadership broadcast to the whole world in order to justify their aggression against a small nation,” the President said.
According to him, recreated in the ranks of the participants in the national liberation movement, the Ossetian tricolor all these years inspired the defenders of the Fatherland to win, united the Ossetian people in the struggle for their rights, and inspired our workers, intellectuals and athletes to new achievements.
“The flag is a symbol of our struggle for justice, for independence, for the preservation of the language and culture of our ancestors. Spiritual purity, courage and work are the foundation of our people, on which our present and future are built.
The colors of the flag - white, red, yellow - are, on the one hand, very ancient symbols rooted in the Nart epic, and on the other hand, they are modern symbols that have a comprehensive meaning for our people," the President said.
He has added that the symbolism of the tricolor shows the connection of times, the connection of generations and our indivisible history between the north and south of Ossetia.
“And it is no coincidence that the Ossetian tricolor was first raised over Theater Square and in the same year it was fluttering on the tower in Nar, on the birthday of the founder of Ossetian literature, Kosta Khetagurov.
The Ossetian tricolor is the embodiment of our aspirations, our common dream - unification and prosperity, well-being and peace. Dear friends! I wish you all the best and creation!" he has stressed..
The event was also attended by Prime Minister Konstantin Dzhussoev, Speaker of Parliament Alan Alborov and other officials.
The Ossetian tricolor is used as the national symbol of South Ossetia since 1989. On January 13, 1992, the country's parliament adopted a law on the national flag. The official celebration of the National Flag Day began in 2013.
