On Wednesday, Minister of Justice Oleg Gagloev received the new head of the protection department of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Republic of South Ossetia, Radik Nabiulin.
As reported on the official website of the Ministry of Justice, the parties discussed the criminal-executive system of the Republic, as well as the normative legal regulation of the issues related to the missing.
Radik Nabiulin spoke about the results of his visit to the correctional colony, during which he talked with the head of the Department for the Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Justice Alan Guchmazov, and also personally examined the cells in which prisoners are kept and other premises of the correctional institution.
He has stressed that the ICRC is ready to assist the Ministry of Justice in providing prisoners with hygiene products, bedding and other essentials. Issues of expanding the types of medical care provided within the walls of the colony were also discussed.
Oleg Gagloev said that Ministry of Justice was working on the issue of providing prisoners with the opportunity to be involved in labor.
“Prisoners of the correctional colony are our citizens, and we will do everything to protect their legal rights,” the Minister has stressed.
Radik Nabiulin, for his part, assured that the ICRC specialists would be happy to assist the leadership of the Ministry of Justice in their plans. He has also noted that the International Committee conducts trainings for correctional officers on the rules for the treatment of prisoners in the countries where it conducts its mission, and suggested that similar trainings be held for correctional officers in South Ossetia.
At the end of the meeting, Minister of Justice expressed his gratitude to the Committee of the Red Cross for their activities on the territory of the Republic, and in particular, in the Ministry of Justice.
“We always accept your help with great gratitude and appreciate it,” he said.
