The interstate agreement on alliance and integration between South Ossetia and Russia unites the security spaces of the two countries; therefore armed aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia is tantamount to aggression against the Russian Federation itself. Konstantin Kochiev, State Adviser to President of South Ossetia, stated this in a comment to IA “Res” on the next anniversary of the signing of the bilateral agreement.

He has noted that any attempts by Georgia and its Western partners to isolate South Ossetia are pointless.

“Our strategic partner is a great country, a seventh part of the entire surface of the earth's land, a whole universe that is almost completely self-sufficient,” Kochiev said.

The State Counselor has stressed that in South Ossetia it is clear to everyone that relations with the Russian Federation are of vital importance.

“Russia has always been the Great Land for us, no one in South Ossetia can imagine the future of their country apart from it,” he said. “It is important to emphasize that the majority of citizens of South Ossetia also have the citizenship of the Russian Federation, this in itself determines the special nature of relations between the two countries, which have a long history and a broad strategic perspective.”

Kochiev believes that it is more correct to speak not only about the interstate relations, but also about the relations of the peoples themselves, about a sense of community, complicity, belonging to a single whole.

“Russia came to the rescue of South Ossetia in the most difficult days of August 2008,” Kochiev reminded. “"Currently, the Republic exists, looking forward to its future with confidence, primarily thanks to Russia."

According to Kochiev, the contractual and legal framework speaks eloquently about the quality of bilateral relations.

“Suffice it to say that more than 120 documents have already been signed at the highest political or governmental level, and several more documents are currently being worked out,” he has specified. "This in itself is clear evidence of the intensity of bilateral relations."

Kochiev has added that direct contacts at the highest level, personal meetings of the top leaders of the two states are of particular importance for South Ossetia.

“The agenda of such meetings is rich, covers the most important issues and suggests a significant step in their solution. We hope that the meeting of the Presidents of South Ossetia and Russia, which took place in Moscow, will give a new impetus to the work on important projects of bilateral cooperation,” the State Adviser has emphasized.

On March 18, 2015, the Russian Federation and South Ossetia signed the Agreement on Alliance and Integration for a period of 25 years, with the possibility of extension for ten-year periods.
