The prospects for the resumption of the work of the Geneva format after a prolonged downtime, as well as the participation of the Russian, Abkhaz and South Ossetia parties in it, were discussed at the meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, Irakli Tuzhba and State Council of President of South Ossetia Konstantin Kochiev.

This was reported by the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission.

"The general commitment to restoring a stable negotiating rhythm with an emphasis on fulfilling the key task of the International Geneva Discussions – ensuring the lasting security of Abkhazia and South Ossetia has been confirmed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting in the framework of the 57th round of Geneva discussions is scheduled for April 4-5, 2023.

The Geneva discussions were regularly held since October 2008. One of the main issues of discussions is the signing of a document on the non -use of force. Moscow, Tskhinval and Sukhum urge Tbilisi to sign this agreement, but Georgia, which does not recognize the independence of its former autonomies, insists that the obligation to non -use of force should take on Russia. South Ossetia and Abkhazia emphasized that Georgia should conclude this agreement with the two republics, but not with the Russian Federation, which is not a party of the conflict.
