The removal of the illegal police post from the territory of the village of Uista in South Ossetia was once again discussed at the meeting within the framework of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) format.
On Tuesday, the first meeting within the format in 2024 was held in the border village of Ergnet.
As Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Republic of South Ossetia for Post-Conflict Resolution, the head of the South Ossetian delegation to the IPRM, Yegor Kochiev, told reporters, the South Ossetian party had been raising this issue at every meeting.
"Every time we tell the Georgian party that a political decision made for the sake of getting some points and not carrying any semantic load only scares the local population. These are citizens of our republic and they are worried that they are under close surveillance by the armed Georgian police," he said.
Kochiev has noted that the decision to remove the illegal post is difficult, but South Ossetia states at every IPRM meeting and in Geneva that there is no any alternative to it .
“The sooner this happens, the sooner it will be possible to resolve other problems related to the destabilization of the situation in this area,” the head of the delegation has emphasized.
According to him, unfortunately, the Georgian party does not want to meet halfway and uses terminology and arguments that do not have any decisive significance.
“Since the outbreak of the crisis in Uista, the South Ossetian party has offered solutions to problems many times, but one of the main conditions is the removal and withdrawal of the Georgian post from the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia,” Kochiev said.
The next IPRM meeting is scheduled for March 20.
