President of the South Ossetian Chess Federation Georgy Shavlokhov and teacher Andrey Tskhovrebov took part in a chess tournament, which was held as part of the World Youth Festival in Sochi.
In total, over 50 participants from different countries of the world competed in the intellectual game. Of these, 20 people reached the semifinals, including Shavlokhov.
Representatives of South Ossetia also took part in a session of simultaneous play on six boards for the diplomatic corps, which was conducted by Russian chess player, grandmaster Sergei Karyakin
“Karyakin won all the participants, but Alan and I lasted the longest. In the end, I was left alone with the grandmaster. It is a great event for us to play against a chess player of such rank. And the festival provides such opportunities. Our participation in the session became possible thanks to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia,” Shavlokhov has emphasized.
It should be reminded that a large delegation of 130 people from South Ossetia is participating in the World Youth Festival in Sochi.
