The Parliament of South Ossetia of the VIII convocation will continue close cooperation with the State Duma and the Federation Council of Russia. As the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Social Policy of South Ossetia, Alexander Pliev, said at the press conference, the next meeting of the South Ossetian parliamentarians with their Russian colleagues was scheduled for October-November of this year.

“Quite intensive work was carried out in both the VI and VII convocations with the State Duma and the Federation Council, there is a permanent commission, a friendship group, and meetings are held twice a year in Tskhinval and in Moscow. This format will continue and gain momentum. The next meeting with the Federation Council is planned for mid-October in Tskhinval, and it is planned to meet with representatives of the State Duma in November, where the most pressing issues will be discussed,” he said.

According to him, both senators and deputies of the State Duma are showing quite active participation; quite serious issues are being raised regarding social policy, in particular pensions and child benefits.

“Of course, the work will be carried out on the issues of pensions, child benefits, wage indexation, many pressing issues that have accumulated in South Ossetia that we must resolve in social policy and healthcare,” he said.

Another pressing issue, according to Pliev, is the issue of tourism development in South Ossetia. He has noted that the Russian party is interested in tourism actively developing in the Republic.

“The Russian party is ready to provide its tour operators, the so-called millionaire bloggers, who could help us with advertising our Republic and its unique sights",” he said.

Pliev also raised the issue of interaction with the legislative body of North Ossetia. He has noted that an agreement on cooperation in legislative activities was signed between the parliaments of the Republic of South Ossetia and the North Ossetia.

“Finally this agreement was signed with our brothers last year. The closer and closer we establish contacts with our brothers, between the parliaments, the more fruitful our work will be. Therefore, one of my messages to our new parliament is that they actively get involved in the work, each in their own line, get involved in friendship, cooperation, interaction with the parliament of North Ossetia, then we will see the results,” Pliev said.

At the same time, Pliev has emphasized that the foreign policy vector of development of South Ossetia has long been predetermined by the people, “this is certainly the Russian Federation, our strategic partner, the state that saved the people of South Ossetia from genocide.”
