Commemorative events dedicated to the 16th anniversary of the 08.08.08 war will be held in the capital of South Ossetia on August 7 and 8, the press service of the Ministry of Culture reports.
"On Wednesday, at 18:00, at the Kosta Khetagurov State Drama Theater will be a screening of the tragedy "The Last Witness". Admission is free, - the Ministry has noted. - On the same day, at 22:00, a mourning event, a flower-laying ceremony, and the opening of a photo exhibition 08.08.08 will be held at the memorial complex "To the Defenders of the Fatherland".
The press service of the Ministry of Culture has added that in the morning of August 8, flowers and wreaths will be laid at the places of death of the defenders of Tskhinval.
"At 14:00, the film "Khækhtæ ævdisæntæ" about the genocide of Ossetians from 1920 to 2008 will be shown. Free admission," the Ministry has noted.
On Thursday, August 8, memorial services for the victims of the August war will also be held in the churches of the Republic.
Memorial events will also be held on August 7, 8 and 9 in the districts of the Republic.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia launched the armed attack on South Ossetia. Russia came to the defense of the citizens of the Republic, many of whom are citizens of the Russian Federation, and its peacekeepers who had been serving in the Republic since 1992. As a result of the war in August 2008, more than 1,000 people were killed, 72 of whom were Russian servicemen.
