The issue of South Ossetia's accession to Russia is currently not on the agenda, the South Ossetian President Alan Gagloev said in the interview with Izvestia.

The head of the Republic has emphasized that the level of integration between Russia and South Ossetia implies a coordinated foreign policy and joint discussion of issues of interest to both parties.

“At the same time, Russia and South Ossetia continue the policy of further rapprochement within the framework of the 2015 Treaty of Alliance and Integration. If conditions arise that lead to the actualization of the issue of the Republic’s accession to Russia, we will hold consultations with the strategic partner,” Gagloev has assured.

He has expressed confidence that any decisions will be made in full accordance with the interests of the peoples of Russia and South Ossetia.

"Being part of Russia is the age-old dream of the Ossetian people. And as for the specific legal forms of its implementation, this is the subject of joint discussions," the South Ossetian leader has concluded.
