They contain the life wisdom of the Ossetian people, every word of the poet breathes love for the Fatherland, President Alan Gagloev, said, speaking at the ceremonial meeting on Friday in honor of the 165th anniversary of Kosta Khetagurov.
He has noted that it was a great honor for him to speak "in this hall on the occasion of the anniversary of the great son of the Ossetian people, the unwavering fighter for their happiness, the founder of the Ossetian literature and literary language Kosta Levanovich Khetagurov."
"The great Kosta is a versatile person. His genius manifested itself equally in literature, journalism and painting. The poet's artistic creativity and social activities constituted an entire era in the history of the Ossetian people," the President has emphasized.
According to him, a colorful and bright figure, the pride of the entire Caucasus, Kosta was developing a sense of national self-awareness and a thirst for knowledge in his native people.
"He understood perfectly well: to love your people means to fight for their better future," Gagloev has noted. "The great poet was a supporter of the democratization of the education system, advocated the opening of new schools and educational institutions, contributed to the organization of libraries and Sunday schools, calling for education in the native language."
The President has emphasized that in order to sing the dreams of the Ossetians, the beauty of their native nature, extraordinary talent, responsive soul and boundless love for the Motherland were needed.
"Kosta, as a great personality, possessed all these qualities," Gagloev said. "Festive events are taking place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, in the south and north of Ossetia, wherever the spirit of the Ossetians is alive."
The head of state has noted that it is everyone's duty to preserve the sacred legacy of the great poet.
"His call for unity and solidarity is relevant today. Only together we can achieve happiness for our people," the President believes. "And his immortal words are still the most important ideological message for us today: "Iron adæm, kærædzi uarzgæyæ tsærut!"
