Ambassador of South Ossetia to Russia Znaur Gassiev has expressed condolences oт the tragic death of the correspondent of the Russian newspaper Izvestia Alexander Martemyanov in the DPR.

"His death is a great loss for Russian journalism. The memory of this wonderful professional who stood for a just cause will certainly remain in our hearts," the Embassy's press service quotes the text of the condolence telegram.

Alexander Martemyanov was working as a correspondent for Izvestia since 2014. He was on the front lines, filming shelling in the DPR, and providing humanitarian aid to local residents.

He himself came under fire more than once: on February 27, 2022, in the village of Pishchevik, also received shrapnel wounds on October 31, 2023, during a second shelling of the railway station in Donetsk by the Ukrainian militants.

Alexander Martemyanov was awarded the medal "For Bravery", as well as the badge of distinction "For Services to the Donetsk People's Republic" of the 3rd degree.
