The National Museum of South Ossetia is preparing for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

As reported to IA Res by director of the National Museum Merab Zasseyev, a large-scale reconstruction and modernization of the military glory department is planned for the anniversary date.

According to the director, the updated exhibition will meet modern museum standards.

“It is planned to use the unique archival materials from the museum’s storage facility, which were not previously exhibited due to limited space. The goal is to create an atmosphere as close as possible to the realities of wartime, so that visitors can better understand and feel the events of those years. Instead of stands with photographs, it is planned to create a more voluminous and realistic exhibition,” he said.

Zasseev stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the Great Victory, "especially in the light of modern geopolitical realities and attempts to rewrite history."

"The museum has already begun developing a draft project. The reconstruction of the military glory department is intended not only to update the exhibition, but to give a clearer and more understandable idea of South Ossetia's contribution to the Great Victory, contrasting modern attempts to distort history," Zasseev has emphasized.

Zasseev expressed hope for support from the Republic's leadership in the implementation of this project.

The museum's project is aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War and forming spiritual, moral and social values in children and adolescents, respect for the heroic past of their homeland through cultural and educational programs.
