Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Last Thursday, June 21, 2012 in St. Petersburg started the XVI International Economic Forum, which will last for three days. The event was attended by several thousand people, including a delegation from the Republic of South Ossetia, consisting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs David Sanakoev, Acting Minister of Economic Development Alexei Khabalov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation Dmitry Medoev.

Within 20 days of June for illegal crossing of the frontier of South Ossetia 15 violators of the state border were detained by the employees of the Border Control Agency of the FSS of Russia in the Republic of South Ossetia.

Dance group "Ars" will take part in the International festival "Students spring of the CIS in the Caucasus", which will be held in the capital of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on June16 - 18.

The preparation of the South Ossetian delegation for the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg was discussed at the today's meeting headed by the South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov.

Young scientists and students from South Ossetia are invited to the International scientific-practical conference "Youth in the formation of an innovative economy and a transition to a knowledge society", which will be held in Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria), September 19 - 21. This has been reported to IA "Res" by the South Ossetian Research Institute named after Z. Vaneev.

President of the Republic of South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov received the members of the South Ossetian delegation at the Geneva international discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia. During the meeting the head of the state was informed about the outcome of the Geneva June 8, 2012 twentieth round of negotiations.
A head of the delegation Boris Chochiev reported to the president, that on the initiative of the South Ossetian side during the talks was considered the validity of using the terms "occupation" and "occupied territory" that at the instigation of Georgia are trying to put into circulation the State Department, Congress and U.S. Secretary of State, as well as some international organizations with regard to South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Creation in the Kremlin of a new l agency on cooperation with the CIS countries, Abkhazia and South Ossetia has indicated that it is the CIS territory which is once again becoming a priority, and, in its potential, a trump card of the Russian leadership. This has been reported to IA "Res" by the expert, a Candidate for History, a coordinator of the working group of the Caucasus and Central Asia department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Federation Alexander Skakov.

The twentieth round of the Geneva international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia ended June 8, 2012. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of South Ossetia, Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, the United States, as well as representatives of the EU, UN and OSCE. South Ossetian delegation was headed by Boris Chochiev.

Joint Statement by Representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia on the illegality of using the terms "occupation" and "occupied territory" in relation to South Ossetia and Abkhazia:

Representatives of the Republic of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have stated at the 20th round of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia the illegitimacy of using the terms "occupation" and "occupied territories" in relation to South Ossetia and Abkhazia in accordance with norms and principles of the international law.

The next round of the consultations on security in Transcaucasia with the participation of representatives of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, USA, as well as UN, OSCE and EU will start today in Geneva; it will be held for two days – June7 - 8.
