Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia in connection with the declaration of Hillary Clinton at the briefing in Batumi

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia is deeply concerned about the statement of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, made at a briefing in Batumi on June 5, on "recognition of the so-called neutral passports to residents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia."

Taking into accountthe U.S. role in supporting the Georgian chauvinist regime, there are not many people in South Ossetia who want to get the so-called ''neutral'' passports of Georgia.
This has been reported to IA "Res" by the Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Law and Local Self-Government of the Parliament of South Ossetia Amiran Diaconov, commenting on the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her visit to Georgia.
"If all the roads to the U.S are opened for the owners of these documents, I doubt that we `ll find a lot of people who `ll have a desire to get them", - said the deputy.

South Ossetian athlete Sarmat Tadtaev became a member of the youth national boxing team of Russia. This has been said IA "Res" by the coach of the athlete Uruzmag Tadtaev.

Today in South Ossetia three agencies are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their establishment.
The decision to establish the Ministry of External Affairs (now Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the Committee for State Security (KGB) and the Ministry of Information, Press and Publications (now the Committee for Information, Communications and Mass Media) was adopted at the session of the Supreme Council of South Ossetia, held on May 28-29,1992.

Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia with respect to the statement adopted at the NATO Summit in Chicago

In a statement issued after the NATO Summit in Chicago May 21, 2012, member countries of NATO, supporting Georgia's aspirations to join the Alliance, appealed to Russia to "abolish the recognition of the Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states and to reduce the Russian military presence in these regions.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia has stated that this document, which was evidently adjusted to the Georgian audience, has a deliberately biased orientation. It is known that South Ossetia is not a "region of Georgia," and only through the intervention of Russia in August 2008 the people of South Ossetia were rescued from total annihilation during the perfidious military aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia. For nearly four years, the security of South Ossetia is guaranteed by the Russian Federation on the basis of the bilateral agreements. South Ossetian people express boundless gratitude to the Russian Federation, but it is obvious, that the summit participants are little interested in the people's opinion.

South Ossetian teachers of the Russian language and literature became the winners of the XII Pushkin International Competition for teachers from the CIS, Bulgaria, Germany and Israel. This has been reported to IA "Res" by a spokesman of the Russian Cooperation in South Ossetia, the first secretary of the Embassy of Russia in South Ossetia Mikhail Stepanov.

NATO has once again reaffirmed its unswerving stance on the status of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Washington and Brussels are still seeing these states, recognized by Russia, as a part of Georgia, and it is unlikely that such declarations have only the character of public rhetoric. They suggest a set of actions aiming to adjust the status quo in the region, created after August 2008. This is already affecting and will further affect the functioning of international and European formats, within the frames of which are discussed the issues of security and stability inTranscaucasia.

President of the Republic of South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov has received today athletes of the sport and martial arts national team.

Contrary to the evident reality NATO continues to call to Russia to abolish its acknowledgment of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, while supporting Georgia's aspiration to join NATO. Such an opinion in an interview with IA "Res" was expressed by Chief of the Caucasus Research of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies JanaAmelina, commenting on the statement, made at the NATO summit in Chicago.
